You should apply for the renewal up to a year before its expiring date. But in case your five years Global Entry validity is going to expire soon, don’t bother. You can easily use your old card for at least one year after the listed expiration date, but if you applied for renewal before your card expired.
You should renew Global Entry ASAP before your card expires. You can apply for renewal one year before your card expires. After applying for renewal you will get a grace period to keep using that card, even while your online application for renewal says “pending.” You should also know that there is no penalty in the price of your Global Entry, even if you apply one year early. It means your new card’s expiration date will still be after five years off from the prior card’s expiration date. For that, you will have to pay the same fee.
In case you have Global Entry, you will also have TSA PreCheck. It means that the extension period also applies to your TSA PreCheck via your Global Entry card.
Like Global Entry, it also lasts for five years. In case you don’t have Global Entry, you can apply for TSA Pre-Check renewal up to six months before the expiration. Here no penalty to the price of your membership for applying early. It means your new membership expiration date will still be another five years off from the older card’s expiration date, and you’ll pay the same fee.
You can renew TSA Pre-check by logging on to the TSA Pre-Check renewal homepage with your Known Traveler Number and paying the fee. You can find out how to look it up here if you forgot it. Besides that your Known Traveler Number will remain the same with your renewed membership. You can be asked to re-interview for the membership.
