If you are entering India then there are some Entry/Exit Requirement of Indian Visa. Entering in India by air or land is relatively straightforward, with standard immigration and customs procedures. But re-entry into India within two months of the previous date of departure has been done away by applying in FRRO. It allows the travelers to combine their India tour with side trips to neighboring countries.

Entry and Exit Requirement:

If you are a US citizen and want to:

  • Visit India only for tourist purposes or to
  • Stay not more than 60 days then

You may apply for an electronic travel authorization at least four days before your arrival instead of applying for a tourist visa at an Indian consulate. For this, you need to visit the website of the Indian government.

On this website, you can check all the eligibility criteria and required documentation.

Note: Without the electronic travel authorization visas are not available upon arrival for U.S. citizens.

  • If you don’t have a valid passport and visa your admission will be denied.
  • The U.S. Embassy and Consulates General in India cannot do anything to assist you if you arrive without proper documentation.
  • We advise you to carry the photocopies of the bio-data page of your U.S. passport and the pages containing the Indian visa and Indian immigration stamps. In case your passport gets lost or stolen you will get help. It will also help you to get the replacement passport. Replacing a lost visa, which you will need to exit the country, may take three to four business days.
  • Being a USA citizen who is wishing to visit India you are responsible for requesting the correct type of visa from the Indian Embassy or Consulate. You should know that there are no provisions for changing your immigration category (e.g., from tourist to work visa) once you have entered the country.
  • It is very important to note that Indian visa regulations change frequently, often with little advance notice, and changes may be poorly advertised and inconsistently enforced. For this, we urge you to check the website of the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C. before any travel to India to review the most current information.
